Czech composer

Hiya ! My name is Terezie - aka Tery. I come from Czech Republic and I have been living in London since 2019. Coming from a creative family, with background in music and graphic design, I’ve graduated with Bachelor of Arts at ICMP in 2024 and wrote my first album called ‘Protagonist’ as a part of the final project.

In the meantime, I’m writing my second album as a part two, while working at the Royal Albert Hall, volunteering in a local centre and looking for new opportunities.

PROTAGONIST

Background

The protagonist connects my favorite aspects of creativity. Storytelling, and emotional expression. I’ve always enjoyed writing elaborate pieces with full on string orchestra, a little plot twist (maybe a key change?) towards the end and an emotional meaning behind it, that could be subjectively interpreted in other ways.

As a fan of The Lord of the Rings, Eragon and Narnia, I’ve always been drawn to the heroic stories and the moments in movies and books that make you go ‘ahh, goosebumps!’

Inspiration

So I wrote an album of 6 tracks, heavily inspired by all my favorite books and movies, and based on Hero’s Journey, written and popularised by Joseph Campbell. Hero’s journey essentially elaborate how every mythical hero’s journey followed identical footsteps, the same pattern of events when it came to processing a challenge or a hardship, change, and ultimately a positive personal growth.

I took the steps and thought of a very simple story for a protagonist, that could be applied on many movies and aspects of our own lives.

Story

It’s a story about a hero, who’s living a comfortable and peaceful life in their kingdom. They’re about to be crowned as the only heir to the throne but nothing goes as expected.

Versatility

At the same time the way the tracks are written, while it has a story, it’s mostly describing and expressing a natural, simple human emotion. It could very well work as a fantasy soundtrack for D&D but also be used for a nature documentary.

  1. The realm

It all starts with an introduction and there are two ways of interpretation and I wrote each track with an emotion and a picture in mind.

The Realm is an introductory piece, an introduction to a beautiful, medieval, magical land, full of mystical creatures, beings and most importantly it’s where our hero lives. We get to know their kingdom, background and the sound emerges from quiet sparse piano into a full blown orchestra.

The Realm is just a beginning.

Figuratively speaking, we are the hero. We are them.

Our life full of characters, events, good and bad and anything could be different than what is seems like at first sight.

2. Escaping the Realm

I’ve introduced you to the Realm, the hero and their life. Nothing is as easy as it looks like and the first plot twist arises.

Betrayal, envy, jealousy, intrigues, plans for destroying the hero’s life, coming from those whom they deem close, lead the hero to escape their own home, family and inheritance. The rightful heir has fled the kingdom and the war for power has begun. We are however focusing on hero’s journey from now on, not on what’s happening in the Realm they left behind.

They’re mourning the loss of their home, pain of betrayal and amounts of resentment sitting on their chest. It’s a call for vengeance. We are the hero in our lives. Facing hardships, challenges and sometimes obstacles are thrown into our path by people we trust.

3. Path to Hell

Fleeing their home with nothing to start a new life, the hero is facing the most difficult challenge of them all. Getting to know themselves outside their comfort zone. Without anything or anyone to rely on. The path is full of painful realisations, remorses, resentment, bitter thoughts and battling the worst thoughts and intentions imaginable.

It’s a real path to hell and back. But there’s no way around other than through. One way or another, they have to find the comfort within themselves.

Just like us, sometimes feeling overwhelmed by challenges we have never encountered yet. It can be scary, overwhelming and intimidating.

4. Freedom

Freedom can have many forms. It is not being in war, being able to speak up without repercussions. Or finding the state of mind where fear is not unstoppable nor crippling, loneliness is not a bottomless pit and the unknown is not an uncertainty but an invitation to explore new possibilities.

The hero has faced the worst, they’ve struggled with finding the strength to push through. But they did. And the freedom of being able to rely on oneself and supply yourself with will, validation and strength is truly freeing.

Remember your own challenges, hardships and battles, how overcoming them was sometimes a battle you thought you’d never be able to win and it was more rewarding than the actual outcome.

How beautiful the feeling of freedom is.

5. Warrior

When we’re hurt, one of the first things that may come to mind could be the need for vengeance. The hurt of betrayal and heartbreak cuts deep and sharp. Finding the equilibrium and peace can be more rewarding. The hero has become a warrior. The initial intention to avenge themselves has shifted. They don’t want or need vengeance anymore, they want justice and getting back what once was their home. What once felt like the safest piece on Earth.

The hero has learnt how to live as a commoner, how to be humble and understand the life of the less fortunate, who are not born into wealthy royal families. They will return, they will regain their throne and their inheritance. And they will very likely become a much better leader than they would have been had the betrayal never happened.

6. Supremacy

All journeys must come to an end. Supremacy is not about one person being above them all, or being more deserving of praise, love or success. It’s about us, being the heroes in our own stories, reaching milestones, ends of our own chapters and becoming our better versions.

We can’t be better than everybody else, what would be the impossible criteria for that, if everybody’s life is so different? But we can strive to be the supreme, the best version of our own inner hero.

Our hero has gone through his story and won. Won back their home and family. What could the next adventure be?

… what’s next?

I’ve told a story of a hero. A person, whose values, upbringing and positive influences throughout life helped them turn challenging experiences into a long lasting lesson and deeper understanding of themselves. In a story set in a fantasy medieval-like land, the hero managed to get back their throne and become a leader with compassionate values. But what if there wasn’t enough healthy stable foundation to build on? What if the challenges were only knocking down somebody who’d already been struggling to get up? What being a villain means?

Are they evil? Are they worthy forgiveness? Could they be saved?
